Biblical Rest or sabbath is about obedience, it involves doing our work from a place of stillness, rest and prayer rather than “collapsing in a heap” at the end of our work. The Hebrew scriptures teach us about sabbath and in the New Testament we see Jesus and his followers observe the sabbath. We also see Jesus take time away from his ministry and other people to pray and seek the will of the Father.

Christian hope is not just a subjective attitude, not simply positive thinking or looking on the bright side of life. It means having a trust in God and believing that God is the Lord of All, is in control and is at work to bring about the future that he wants. In the Christmas narratives we see this hope tangibly manifest Himself as a newborn baby born to lowly human parents in humble surrounds.
